Team Building in Koroška: Where Mountain Biking Meets Adventure

Team buildings are great. Especially when you swap the office chair for a bike saddle, throw on a helmet, and dive headfirst into nature with your team. This year, we headed to Koroška – more precisely, to Jamnica – for a proper mountain biking escape full of trails, laughs, and a few sore legs. Oh, and we had a secret weapon: our local MTB legend, Anej Štrucl.

Day 1: Jamnica – Where Coffee Meets Climbing

Our adventure kicked off at the Ecohotel Koroš, a cozy mountain lodge and the beating heart of Koroška’s MTB scene. Surrounded by forest, clean air, and a network of top-tier trails, it’s the perfect launchpad for any two-wheeled adventure – whether you’re a weekend warrior or a full-on trail junkie.

We started the day the right way: fresh coffee and warm croissants on the terrace, soaking in the morning calm. Then – it was go time!

The day’s ride stretched over 35 km of scenic terrain, suitable for every level of rider. Most of the group were cruising on e-bikes, but a few die-hard traditionalists powered the route with pure muscle. Respect! We kept a friendly pace, making sure the old-school riders didn’t get left behind. After all, what’s a team building without some team spirit?

Midway through, we made a tasty pit stop at the Marta Homestead, where we were served up some proper local treats – think homemade bread, cheeses, charcuterie, and that mysterious “juice” that definitely wasn’t just juice. With full bellies and happy faces, we made our way back to the hotel just in time for a well-earned aperitif and a cold beer.

The evening was all about connection – games, shared stories, a hearty dinner, and a short presentation on what’s new in the company. And of course, plenty of laughs.

Day 2: Into the Mountain – Biking Below the Surface

The next morning, we headed to Mežica, where another local guide – the one and only Jani Hercog – was waiting for us. The plan? Ride inside a mountain. Yes, you read that right.

We geared up and descended into the legendary Peca Mine, where the air stays at a brisk 10°C all year round. But honestly, we didn’t even notice the chill – we were too busy riding through winding tunnels, learning about the region’s mining history, and soaking in the surreal atmosphere. Riding underground is something else – a mix of mystery, adrenaline, and history.

Once back in the daylight, we rode a few more kilometers before landing at Jani’s family homestead, Na trati, where we wrapped things up with an unforgettable lunch prepared by a local chef. It was the perfect ending to two days of exploration and bonding.

This trip wouldn’t have been the same without Anej Štrucl – the main force behind the thriving mountain biking scene on Koroška. Anej’s passion, deep local knowledge, and unstoppable energy are what turn a simple ride into a true adventure. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned rider, Anej knows how to tailor the experience so everyone gets their share of fun, flow, and a little bit of mud.

He’s the reason Koroška is on the MTB map – and trust us, once you meet him, you’ll want to come back for more.

The MTB Hub: Ecohotel Koroš

A huge shoutout also goes to the Ecohotel Koroš, a family-run gem that’s truly built for mountain bikers. The hotel sits right at the crossroads of several famous trail systems like Sledi Divjine, Kundijeva Pot, and connections into Southern Austria. Trails are well-marked, diverse, and regularly maintained.

Oh – and for the truly brave – there’s the Black Hole Trail, a wild, technical underground ride that’s not for the faint of heart. (We skipped it this time… but it’s already on the list for next year.)

For travelers with campervans, they even offer an RV stop right next to the hotel, complete with the peace and quiet of nature and direct access to the trails.

Wrapping Up

This wasn’t just a team building. It was a full-on mountain escape, a chance to breathe, sweat, laugh, and ride together. We reconnected with nature, supported each other up the hills, and discovered some of the coolest spots Koroška has to offer – above and below ground.

And once again – hats off to Anej Štrucl, the local hero who made it all possible.
